Between August 30 and September 1, 1982, Fouad Elkoury was aboard the Atlantis, a ship carrying Arafat and PLO fighters out of Beirut after two months of siege and heavy shelling by the Israeli army.
Unaware that he was capturing history in the making, he took seemingly casual photographs of a journey that felt more like a family cruise than an escape—producing iconic images of Arafat, lost in solitude along the way.
